Izamal is called the "Yellow City" because every building in the center is painted the same golden yellow, creating a stunning visual effect. The massive Convento de San Antonio de Padua was built atop a Mayan pyramid using stones from the original structures. Additional Mayan pyramids are scattered through town, including Kinich Kakmó—one of Mexico's largest.
